Real Idiots reclassified and July musings

You would think the Real Idiots are the ones heading out to the post, catamarans, and the barrel… But this week it has made me rethink what a Real Idiot is. The stretch of water in close, say 10 metres from shore, is ICE cold. The Real Idiots are those who choose to swim in close, at least the offshore idiots sometimes find warm patches beyond the cones. No such luck for the inshore crowd.

It is good to be back in the water in the mornings after it has taken a back seat for far too long due to work commitments. It is the ONLY way to start the day and I’m thankful for this one bit of sanity before the craziness of my working life. I’m sure we all experience varying degrees in our chosen vocations.

The sunrises have been spectacular; the water super clear, and icy.Perfect conditions for winter swimming.

I lost my Swimming Idiots swim cap last week. I had no idea where I mislaid it. Swimming out one morning, Bevan spied something on the sea floor and mentioned that it could have been a cap when we reached the post. Miraculously, I swam over the same spot and saw something down there. I dove down and reefed a sand-filled cap off the sea floor. After emptying all the sand out, I turned the cap inside out, and lo and behold, my cap was found! A miracle!

Thanks to the cadre of temperature takers – Linda, Ruth, and Claire, although I believe Linda is taking a short sabbatical.

New showers have been installed at Almora Steps to join the rest of the beach with modern facilities. It’s about time…

Some random photos from July.
