The crowd at the steps this morning was staggering. Sutho was leaving the beach as (sharp intake of breath here) Stephen, Bevan, Richard, Judy, Linda, Dave, Bruce, Louise, and David F(lippers) descended the stairs. Sutho, Dave, Linda, Judy, Louise, Bruce and David F. all chose to swim sans wetsuit in a water temperature that could only be described as balmy (18.99C). The pace out was relaxed although we did wonder whether someone had moved the post… Louise calmly breaststroked out (her hair stayed immaculately in place) and remained calm despite the pack deserting her as they headed to “Balmoral Belle” (definitely a misnomer). Fortunately Bruce and Dave, being the chivalrous gentlemen that they are, waited for Louise to catch her breath before heading off in pursuit. Dave took a slight detour and waited at Gwen’s cojones for the pack to reach him, before swimming to the island. For the record, the distance covered by the idiots today was 1050 metres, give or take.
As to the whereabouts of “Deryn Gwyn” aka “Gwen”, nobody knows but research shows that it’s 12.59 metres (41ft) in length and was built in 1979.
Good to see such a large group hit the water…and in these times of shark fever (thanks to WA) I feel far more relaxed swimming in numbers!
