“I forgot my wetsuit top” 2

I wish that was my excuse as Chris and I stood in the shallows on Friday morning contemplating our navels.

Chris’s pre-swim dippy-dunk sent a cold shiver down my spine… But as we all know, after the first 80 metres the body is accustomed to the cold (and you are too far from shore) and you continue regardless. At the 40 metre mark, I had to stop and make a goggle adjustment as the right side was filled with water. This exercise continued for the rest of the outward leg.

The water was crystal clear and the sea floor clearly visible when not viewed through fogged-up or water-logged goggles. And there was a warm patch to be had near the island.

As I was rounding the island, I felt like I was hit by something of a stinging nature and stopped to have a look around. I couldn’t see anything and wrote it off as sea lice.

When I finally caught up with Chris at the far cone off Deadman’s, he told me that he saw a Jimble between the island and the first cone. Great! That helped my decision-making process as I chose to exit stage right to the beach. Chris bravely retraced his steps and we met on the other side of the island.

Meanwhile Judy “I forgot my swim top” was not perturbed by the cold and attempted to link up with us at the end of the island, BUT Chris was moving too fast and I had come overland.

It was a good swim had by all and the morning colours were spectacular, as was the air temp. Water temp was a fresh 14C.
